Who We Are
Chesterton Academy of The Divine Family is a classical, Catholic high school dedicated to forming joyful leaders and saints through faith, reason, and virtue. As a Board Member, you will play a vital role in guiding the school's mission, governance, and long-term success.
Qualifications & Eligibility
To serve on the Board, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Faith Commitment: Must be a practicing Roman Catholic who follows the teachings of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and the direction of the Roman Catholic Pontiff.
- Oath of Fidelity: Required to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium prior to appointment.
- Experience & Skills: Expertise in areas such as education, finance, fundraising, governance, marketing, law, or business management is highly desirable.
- Time Commitment: Willing to dedicate time for meetings, committee work, and supporting school initiatives.
- Integrity & Service: Must act in the best interest of the school, students, and mission while adhering to ethical governance practices.
Board Member Responsibilities
Board Members provide leadership, oversight, and strategic direction in the following areas:
- Mission & Catholic Identity: Uphold and strengthen the school’s Catholic identity and classical curriculum.
- Financial Stewardship: Ensure fiscal responsibility, approve budgets, and oversee fundraising efforts.
- Governance & Oversight: Attend board meetings (at least twice per academic year) and participate in key decision-making.
- Strategic Planning: Assist in developing long-term goals to ensure the sustainability and growth of the school.
- Community Engagement: Serve as an ambassador for the school, fostering relationships with donors, parents, and the Diocese.
- Policy & Compliance: Ensure the school operates within legal and ethical guidelines and adheres to accreditation standards.
Board Members serve a term of three years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms (six years total).
Board Leadership Roles
While all Board Members share governance responsibilities, some may serve in leadership roles:
- Chairman: Leads board meetings, ensures resolutions are carried out, and provides strategic oversight.
- Vice-Chairman: Supports the Chairman and assumes duties in their absence.
- Secretary: Maintains meeting records and ensures compliance with board policies.
- Treasurer: Monitors financial health, assists in budgeting, and ensures financial accountability.
- Committee Members:
Serve on specialized committees such as Finance, Development, Governance, and Academic Affairs.
Commitment & Expectations
- Term Length: board members serve a term of three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a second consecutive term (six years total). After two consecutive terms, members must take a one-year break before reapplying.
- Meeting Schedule: The Board meets at least twice per academic year. Additional committee meetings may be scheduled as needed.
- Volunteer Service: Board positions are unpaid but essential to the school's success.
- Collaboration: Members work closely with the Headmaster, Executive Director, and other stakeholders to fulfill the school's mission.
- Spiritual Support: Board Members commit to praying for the school and its mission.

- Submit a Letter of Interest explaining why you wish to serve on the Board and how your skills align with the school’s mission.
- Provide Two References (one from a Catholic priest or spiritual mentor).
- Attend an Interview with the current Board of Directors.
